NTN - 2-Component Glass Backing Ink

1. Overview & Applications

The NTN Series is a specialized 2-component screen printing ink formulated explicitly as a protective backing layer (cover layer) for decorative appliance glass.

Performance Highlights:

  • Anti-Yellowing: Demonstrates outstanding resistance to yellowing during high-temperature baking.
  • High Surface Tension: Once fully cured, the ink layer achieves a surface tension of > 40 dyne, ensuring superior bonding strength with industrial mounting adhesives and double-sided tapes.
  • Inter-Layer Compatibility: Exhibits exceptional inter-layer adhesion when printed over our NHB and NCD glass ink series.

2. Physical & Chemical Performance

Testing Conditions: 1st Layer: NHB 9002 Clear (baked 180°C/7 min) -> 2nd Layer: NHB 102 White (baked 180°C/7 min) -> 3rd Layer: NTN 002 Gray Backing (baked 180°C/12 min). Substrate: 5mm Glass. Mesh: 150.

4. Mixing & Processing Instructions

Mixing Formula

NTN Glass Ink 100 Parts
B-11 Hardener 10 Parts
JD-100 Slow-Dry Thinner 15 - 25 Parts (Adjust to proper printing viscosity)
Critical Thinner Warning: You must strictly use JD-100 Slow-Dry Thinner. Using alternative or incompatible thinners may result in severe screen clogging or trigger chemical yellowing in the white ink formulations.

Processing Guidelines & Pot Life

  • Pot Life: Once the B-11 hardener is added, the ink viscosity will gradually increase until it gels. Pot life is 8 to 10 hours at 25°C. (This time decreases in hotter summer environments). For maximum stability, we recommend mixing only a 4-to-5-hour supply at a time.
  • Printing Sequence: Applied as the final protective backing layer in the decorative glass printing sequence.
  • Baking Conditions: Must be baked at 180°C for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Storage & Shelf Life: Store in a cool, dry place away from open flames. Shelf life is 12 months at standard room temperature.

Curing Verification Test

NTN ink must be thoroughly baked to achieve full cross-linking. Failure to fully cure will severely compromise performance. To verify full curing, perform the following test:

Take a cotton cloth soaked in MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). Apply 2-3 kg of pressure and rub the ink surface back and forth at a speed of 1 cycle per second for 100 cycles. If the ink layer remains intact, it is fully cured. If the ink wipes off, the baking time or temperature must be increased.
Important Disclaimer: Due to the complexity of printing processes, multiple layering, and variations in substrate materials, users must conduct small-batch trials to ensure the formulation and baking schedule meet their specific requirements before initiating mass production. Do not intermix NTN ink with other series or brands to prevent adverse chemical reactions.
